Health & Wellbeing Coaching

Health and wellness coaching is not therapy, not personal training, and not a diet plan. Here is what it actually is, who it helps, and what to expect from working with a health coach.

What Is Health and Wellness Coaching and Could It Help You?

Many people arrive at health and wellness coaching having already tried everything else. They have seen their GP, perhaps had a referral to a specialist, maybe tried a new diet or a gym membership. And yet something still feels stuck.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. Health and wellness coaching may be exactly what has been missing.

Health Coaching Is Not What Most People Think

When people hear the words "health coach" or "wellness coach", they often picture someone handing out meal plans or pushing them through a workout. That is not what this is.

Health and wellness coaching is a structured, one-to-one conversation-based process. It helps you understand what is getting in the way of your health and wellbeing and supports you to make changes that are realistic, sustainable, and genuinely right for your life.

It is not about being told what to do. It is about being supported to work out what you actually want, what is holding you back, and how to move forward in a way that fits who you are.

What Does a Health and Wellness Coach Actually Do?

A health and wellness coach works with you to:

  • Clarify your goals: not the goals you think you should have, but the ones that genuinely matter to you
  • Identify what is getting in the way: whether that is habits, mindset, energy, circumstances, or something else entirely
  • Build practical strategies: approaches that fit your real life, not an idealised version of it
  • Provide accountability and support: so that change does not just happen in the session, but carries through into your daily life
  • Review and adapt: because life changes, and your coaching programme should too

At Whole Life Rehab, our health coaching also draws on physiotherapy expertise. That means we can address the physical dimensions of your health, including energy, movement, pain and recovery, alongside the lifestyle and mindset factors that affect how you feel day to day.

Who Is Health and Wellness Coaching For?

Health coaching is not just for people who are unwell. It is for anyone who feels that their health, energy or quality of life is not where they want it to be and who wants support to change that.

The people who tend to benefit most are those who:

  • Feel persistently tired, flat or low in energy despite no clear medical cause
  • Are managing a health condition and want to do more than just cope with it
  • Are recovering from illness, injury or a difficult period and want to rebuild their health holistically
  • Feel overwhelmed by conflicting health information and do not know where to start
  • Have tried to make changes before but found them hard to sustain
  • Are navigating a significant life transition, such as menopause, retirement or a change in role, and want support to look after themselves through it

You do not need a referral. You do not need to be a patient. You simply need to want things to be different.

How Is Health Coaching Different from Therapy?

This is one of the most common questions, and it is a fair one.

Therapy, whether that is counselling, CBT or psychotherapy, typically focuses on exploring and processing past experiences, emotions and psychological patterns. It is often the right choice when someone is dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions.

Health and wellness coaching is forward-focused. It starts from where you are now and works towards where you want to be. It is practical, action-oriented and grounded in your day-to-day life.

The two can complement each other well. Some people work with both a therapist and a health coach at the same time, addressing different dimensions of their wellbeing.

How Is It Different from Personal Training or Nutrition Advice?

A personal trainer focuses on exercise. A nutritionist or dietitian focuses on food. A health and wellness coach takes a broader view.

Coaching looks at the whole picture: sleep, stress, movement, nutrition, relationships, purpose, energy and mindset. It helps you understand how these things interact in your specific life. Rather than prescribing a programme, a health coach helps you build one that you will actually follow.

At Whole Life Rehab, our coaching also integrates physiotherapy knowledge. So if physical health, pain, movement or recovery are part of your picture, those can be addressed within the coaching process rather than requiring a separate referral.

What Does a Health Coaching Programme Look Like?

Every programme is different, because every person is different. But in broad terms, you can expect:

An initial conversation to understand your situation, your goals and what you would most like to change. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and decide whether coaching feels right for you.

A personalised plan built around your specific priorities. This is not a generic template but something shaped around your life, your challenges and what you are ready to work on.

Regular one-to-one sessions delivered either in person, for clients in Maidenhead, Windsor, Marlow, Ascot and the surrounding areas of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey, or online via video call for clients anywhere in the UK.

Support between sessions: because change happens in the gaps between conversations, not just during them.

Review and progression: as you make changes, your programme evolves with you.

The core programme at Whole Life Rehab starts from £595 for a six-week package. Longer programmes are available for those who want more sustained support.

A Note on Online Health Coaching

One of the most significant shifts in health coaching over recent years is the move online. Video-based coaching is now the norm for many clients, and for good reason.

It removes the need to travel, fits more easily around work and family commitments, and makes specialist support accessible regardless of where you live. At Whole Life Rehab, all coaching programmes are available online, which means clients across the UK can access the same quality of support as those who come to us in person.

Is Health and Wellness Coaching Right for You?

The honest answer is that the best way to find out is to have a conversation.

A complimentary call takes around 20 minutes. There is no obligation, no sales pressure and no expectation that you will commit to anything. It is simply a chance to talk about where you are, what you are hoping for, and whether coaching might be a useful part of getting there.

If you are based in Maidenhead, Windsor, Marlow, Ascot, Henley or the surrounding areas of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire or Surrey, or anywhere else in the UK, we would be glad to hear from you.
